The American Alliance for Theatre and Education and Theatre for Young Audiences-USA seek
10-minute plays by 6th, 7th, and 8th grade playwrights on the theme, “Making a Change in Your World”.
Students are asked to write a play which addresses an injustice, and how the characters would attempt to right the wrong.
The submission deadline of January 6th, 2016 at noon. The semifinalists will receive staged readings, and the winner a staged production.
The regional winner will be submitted to the national contest.
Last year’s theme, “What is Family?” awarded the Noorda Theatre Center’s regional winner, Alexia McCarty, with the National prize. Alexia was accompanied by her grandparents on an expenses-paid trip to Chicago for the “One Theatre World” conference, in which the staged reading of her play, Life Goes On, received a standing ovation from the audience of theatre professionals.
The Noorda Center will also offer two playwrighting workshops, one in November and one in December. These workshops will help students prepare to mold their ideas into a successful 10-minute play.
